Editorial Standards how we work

Every factual claim on Wizely traces back to a primary government source. Here's exactly what that means, which sources we accept, and what we do when something is wrong.

Version v 1.0
The 30-second version

We only cite authoritative primary sources (BLS, IRS, Federal Reserve, etc.), use conservative claim language, include a financial disclaimer on every page, and correct errors publicly. We don't publish specific investment advice, stock picks, or affiliate product comparisons.

01Source requirements

Every factual claim — a salary figure, a tax threshold, a contribution limit, a cost-of-living index — must trace back to a primary authoritative source. Our approved citation domains:

BLS
bls.gov — Occupational Employment & Wage Statistics, Consumer Price Index, Consumer Expenditure Survey. Used for salary data and cost data.
IRS
irs.gov — Publications, notices, and revenue procedures. Used for all tax rules, deduction limits, and contribution limits.
BEA
bea.gov — Regional Price Parities, Personal Consumption Expenditures. Used for cost-of-living comparisons.
Census Bureau
census.gov — American Community Survey, Current Population Survey. Used for income, housing, and demographic data.
Federal Reserve
federalreserve.gov and regional Fed banks. Used for interest rate and banking data.
SEC / FINRA
sec.gov and finra.org. Used for investment regulations and securities rules.
SSA
ssa.gov. Used for Social Security, retirement age, and benefit rules.
CFPB
consumerfinance.gov. Used for consumer credit and mortgage rules.

Sources outside this list require editorial approval before use. Press releases, secondary aggregators, and anonymous surveys are not acceptable citations.

02Claim language

Required

  • Hedged language where appropriate: "may qualify," "typically," "often," "as of 2026," "in most cases."
  • Tax year attached to every figure that changes annually: "The 2026 401(k) contribution limit is $23,500."
  • Financial disclaimer on every content page: "This content is for informational purposes only and is not financial, tax, or legal advice."

Prohibited

  • "Will save you $X" — earnings promises are prohibited.
  • "Guaranteed," "always," "never" — absolute claims require absolute evidence we won't have.
  • "Best bank," "top fund," "recommended brokerage" — we don't rank financial products.
  • "Get rich," "make money fast," "passive income secret" — this is a finance information site, not a promotion.

03Citation format

Every content page includes a numbered references section at the bottom. Citations are numbered inline in the text (e.g. [1]) and linked in the references list. We use target="_blank" rel="noopener" — we don't add nofollow to editorial citations because they're genuine authority signals, not paid links.

Minimum citation requirement Every content page must include at minimum 3 outbound authority citations. Pages touching tax rules or salary data typically carry 4–6.

04YMYL compliance

"Your Money or Your Life" content is held to the highest E-E-A-T standard by Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines. Wrong financial information can cause real harm. Our YMYL compliance checklist for every published page:

  1. At least 3 outbound citations to sources on the approved list above.
  2. Financial disclaimer rendered visibly on the page.
  3. All dollar figures and rates tagged with the applicable year.
  4. No absolute earnings promises or investment recommendations.
  5. FAQ section with 3–5 questions answering common search intent around the topic.
  6. JSON-LD Article schema with author set to Organization: Wizely.

05Correction policy

We fix errors quickly and transparently:

  • Minor errors (typos, broken links, outdated figures) — corrected within 48 hours, dateModified updated in schema.
  • Factual errors (wrong dollar amount, incorrect tax rule) — corrected within 24 hours, the correction is noted at the bottom of the article with a brief description of what changed and when.
  • Significant errors (systematically wrong data, misleading framing) — page is taken offline or replaced with a notice while we investigate, then corrected and republished with a full correction note.

We don't quietly edit pages and pretend the old version never existed. Every factual correction is acknowledged on the page.

06What we don't cover

Wizely is an informational site, not a financial advisor. We don't:

  • Give personalized financial, tax, or legal advice.
  • Recommend specific stocks, funds, or financial products as "best."
  • Publish affiliate roundups or paid product placements disguised as editorial.
  • Cite non-primary sources (press releases, secondary aggregators, anonymous surveys).

07Report an error

Email hello@wizelyfinance.com with the page URL and the claim you believe is incorrect. Include a link to a primary source if you have one. We investigate every report.

Spotted something that looks wrong?

Tell us. We'd rather fix a number than defend it. Include the page URL and the claim that looks incorrect and we'll investigate within 48 hours.
